My love for the camera started in my first film class, I got my hands on a Cannon EOS 70D and my life has never been the same. After studying cinematography in textbooks, my first time with a camera came naturally to me. Framing, lens choices, histograms, apertures, have grown to be second nature since. I've worked with many types of cameras in my time. From DSLR, to mirrorless, and even broadcast cameras. Brands ranging from Cannon to Sony to BlackMagic Design. I've had to opportunity to use gimbals, anamorphic lenses, light boxes, and dollys. I've been all over the camera department, I take pride in keeping very detailed camera logs when working as a 2nd AC, Accurate focus pulling when I'm the 1st AC, Framing the DP's vision just right when I'm the camera op, and bringing the directors vision to life working as a DP. I'm very thankful to have shot as many projects as I have, and look forward to shooting the next one.
This was a very exciting project for me, as it was my first time using anamorphic lenses. The problem was though, that we only had 2 lenses. I had to employ some heavy problem solving, and squeeze my camera OPs into some pretty tight spaces to get the shots. We came together as a team and made it happen, and I am honored to have been a part of this. I consider this my best cinematography work to date. Warning: This short film contains adult language and crude jokes, viewer discretion is advised.
This is an older project of mine. I worked as the Director of Photography, and as an Editor. We were tasked with creating a short film based on a prompt, as an additional challenge, we could not record any audio for the film; any music or sound effects used had to be found online. One of my favorite details I added was in the opening scene, where we see the color drain out as her disgust starts to creep in. While this was technically an assignment for a class, I am very happy with the results and proud to share it.
This microfilm written and directed by Keith Houk was actually my ever project I was a DP for, It was as much of a learning experience as it was a fun one. I'm honestly surprised with how well I did for my first time. Hope you enjoy!
